Thursday morning, The Buffalo News reported that the contracts of UB men's basketball coach Jim Whitesell and UB women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack had been extended for one year, with both contracts ending after the 2024-25 season.
Neither contract extension included an increase in base salary, however both included increased incentives for on-court performance. Whitesell earns an annual base salary of $300,000, and annual additional compensation of $100,000. Legette-Jack earns an annual base salary of $270,000, and annual additional compensation of $75,000.
Major changes to Legette-Jack's contract include the elimination of a non-compete clause:
[H]er contract extension from April of 2019 stated that she could not seek or accept employment in any other coaching capacity with any other Mid-American Conference program during the duration of her contract.
The buyout schedule for Whitesell by year, if either UB or Whitesell were to end employment is as follows:
Prior to April 2022: $600,000
Prior to April 2023: $500,000
Prior to April 2024: $400,000
Prior to April 2025: $300,000
The buyout schedule if UB were to end employment for Legette-Jack is as follows:
Prior to March 31, 2022: $600,000
Prior to March 31, 2023: $450,000
Prior to March 31, 2024: $275,000
Prior to March 31, 2025: $150,000
If Legette-Jack were to leave UB, her buyout owed to UB would be:
Prior to April 2022: $100,000
Prior to April 2023: $75,000
Prior to April 2024: $50,000
