Smiley was UB's first commitment of 2014 and then spent the year becoming one the the best all-around players on one of the best teams in Western New York. By the time his senior season was over the Buffalo commit was a finalist for the Connolly Cup, awarded to the top player in the Buffalo area. Where will he fit in at UB? Well, it could be on either side of the ball. Smiley was the only player who was voted to the All-Amherst Bee First Team in both offense and defense this year. He was selected First Team All-Western New York the last two seasons. UB's more pressing need may be on defense, where Smiley recorded a total of 61 tackles, including six for a loss, through 10 games this year and two interceptions. Throughout the season he was also an effective weapon in both the passing and running game. In his senior year he recorded 30 receptions for 515 yards and seven touchdowns. The two-year captain also carried the ball 49 times for 468 yards and 10 touchdowns. |
