VIDEO RECAP: Women's Soccer Downs Syracuse In 2OT's - 1-0

We're trying something new this year with myself doing quick video recaps straight after any UB home match that I attend. These recaps are meant to be quick 1-2 minute videos that give you the big picture of what happened in the game and any noticeable highlights or story-lines.

Women's Soccer opened their home slate against in-state rival Syracuse today, and the teams were evenly matched throughout. The weather was mid-summer-like for the second day in a row at UB Stadium and made for brutal on field conditions.

Throughout the first half, it was very much a game of attrition as the UB defense was physical with the Syracuse attack. However, scoring opportunities for the Bulls were difficult to come by with only a pair of shots on goal in the first half, one from Brianna Shingary and the other from Dana Lytle. Carissima Cutrona had several opportunities deep in the Syracuse zone as well, but lost her footing on one, and was swarmed by the Syracuse defense on the others.

The second half was much of the safe back-and-forth between the teams with Syracuse outshooting the Bulls big time. Goalie Laura Dougall stepped up on several occasions to make big saves that another goalie would have let go inbetween the pipes. A Julia Benati free kick in the 88th minute went right to the chest of the goalie, and that was the Bulls' best chance in regulation.

After nearly two overtimes - Dana Lytle finally broke through for the Bulls with an assist for Kassidy Kidd to get the win for the Bulls.
