UB played at the best team in the MAC and held their own. UB kicked a field goal on their first drive, then held the lead for 32:44, before falling behind 10-5 late in the third. UB responded with a 17-yard Drew Willy to Naaman Roosevelt TD pass to give UB the 11-10 lead. The teams traded TDs, and UB led 18-17 with 14:26 remaining in the game.
CMU answered with a field goal, then forced UB to punt and scored what seemed to be the crushing blow, a TD to give CMU a 27-18 lead with 3 minutes remaining.
UB struck quickly with a 65-yard TD pass to James Starks, to bring UB within 2. After recovering the ensuing onside kick, UB drove to the CMU 31-yard line with 10 seconds remaining. UB set up A.J. Principe for the game winning score from 46 yards out, but the kick hit the right upright and fell no good. For a season remembered as a lucky one, UB's signature win was lost to a few inches right.
