OFFENSE

The Starters - QB: Licata. RB: Taylor. FB: Patterson. TE: Weiser. LT: Kling. LG: Guy. C: O’Hagan. RG: Manosalvas. RT: Blodgett. WR: Willoughby, Lisa.

The offense seems ready to go even through the season is nearly three weeks away. Joe Licata set the tone in yesterdays first scrimmage by driving his offense on an 11 play 70 yard drive the first time they touched the ball. Licata capped the march with a 9-yard touchdown pass to UB's number one receiver Ron Willoughby.

On the drive UB's Anthone Taylor hit runs of 19 and 13 yards.

On the second drive the offense went 50 yards for a score. Once again it was a touchdown pass, this time to Marcus McGill who's two yard touchdown reception was set up by his own 17-yard sideline reception.

DEFENSE:

The Starters - DL: Solomon Jackson, Max Perisse, Brandon Crawford, Demone Harris. LB: Okezie Alozie, Nick Gilbo, Kyril Threats. CB: Boise Ross, Marqus Baker. S: Ryan Williamson, Andrews Dadeboe.

It's really looking like the standout in the secondary is going to be Boise Ross, the junior who was moved over from receiver by Jeff Quinn early last season.

Today it was a mixed bag. A red-zone holding call on Ross kept the second drive alive. Later, however, Ross made a fine, diving interception on the sideline. On balance the secondary was not up to holding back the UB quarterbacks. Even freshman Tyree Jackson, looked good. He hit J.R. Zazzara on a 32-yard slant-and-run for a TD. Later Jackson threw a 14-yard dart over the middle for a TD to Brandon Smiley (Sweet Home).

On the line JUCO addition Torey Hendrick was the most impressive defender off the edge. He gave the second-team offensive tackles fits.

Part of the defenses struggle may ave been injury related. three defensive ends (Randy Anyanwu, Myles Nicholas and Zach Smekal) along with linebacker Jarrett Franklin were all sitting out.

During the scrimmage freshman running back Johnathan Hawkins went down with an apparent shoulder injury. He was helped off the field.
