UB alumni updates

Drew Willy

Still trying to heal from an injury suffered two weeks ago someone asked the offensive line how they feel about their protection of Drew Willy.

Bombers lineman taking quarterback Drew Willy’s injury personally - The Globe and Mail
The veteran offensive linemen were brought in to help protect starting Blue Bombers quarterback Drew Willy and stabilize a unit that had given up a franchise-high 71 sacks last year.

Heading into Friday’s game against the visiting Toronto Argonauts (4-2), Willy is on the sidelines with a serious knee injury and Winnipeg (3-4) has allowed a league-high 23 sacks through seven games – the same number after seven games last season.

The fact is that they are upset with themselves and they should be. This is a unit that was billed as a bigger better line which would keep Winnipeg's star quarterback off the turf. It's not worked out.

The good(ish) news for Blue Bomber fans is that the backup situation is not nearly as desperate as it had looked in the past.

Bombers disappointing again, but Marve a ray of Blue hope - Winnipeg Free Press
So, life without Drew Willy may not be a post-apocalyptic wasteland for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after all.

The Bombers head to the bye at 3-5 having lost two games in a row but with evidence third-string quarterback now turned starter Robert Marve doesn’t equate to a loss before the game even begins.

I don't think Drew's job is in any kind of jeopardy but maybe next spring there will be a bit more pressure on Willy.

Ernest Jackson

EJ and the REDBLACKS just got crushed a few days ago. The usually productive Jackson had just three catches for 24 yards. EJ was not alone in an off day, the Stampeeders kept Ottawa to 21 yards rushing and only 179 yards passing.

Natey Adjei

A single reception for ten yards in Toronto's victory over Winnipeg. He has become a guy who you're seeing with the ball in every game and his role is only going to grow.

Naaman Roosevelt

Still on the practice Squad Roosevelt continues to try and play his way onto the game day roster.

Rookie wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt made the catch of practice, while on scout team, a beauty onehanded behind-the-back grab from rookie QB Blake Sims.
