No real need to rewrite my post from last year as the basic points still hold.
It is in UB’s best interest to extend HCLL’s contract again, with a reasonable bump in pay. I am not overly concerned about a P5 program looking to hire LL away for two basic reasons:
1) At least once a year he will get totally out coached on the field and/or a game gets completely away from him.
2) He may have built a nice program at UB but it has taken time to get there, he is not a quick fix.
I think a P5 program is looking for quick results like PJ Fleck had at WMU and Minnesota. If I am wrong, UB just does not have the resources to compete with a P5 offer. That said results should be rewarded enough to keep him from jumping to another G5.
Some of LL’s accomplishments:
MAC East Champ
Three straight bowl eligible seasons (one more than all other HCs combined since 1999)
Back to back winning seasons
.500 regular season record (0-2 post season)
Yes, Gill had 1.5 East titles and a MAC Championship, but he left. The team is still very young, we will need some retooling/reloading on the Oline, but should be able to match or exceed the 5-3 MAC record again next year. Clearly, something has to be done about special teams, but the program is going in the right direction and I want to see it continue. Extend, bump the pay and increase the buyout.
P.S. Really hoping to post this again next year after a successful 2020 season.
