Last year there were many multi year starters which made this weekly post very active. This season there are a lot of new faces and a lot of first time starters. So in addition to tracking where guys are all time we will also keep a list of single season records.
Defense
Next week we'll include some of the defensive records. The one that jumps off the page is Boise Ross.
Ross defended 20 passes last season. That mark set a UB record and put Ross 8 away from cracking the top 10 all-timeat UB. The career record of 39 by Gemara Williams may be in danger.
Rushing Records
Keep an eye on Jordan Johnson. While I think Branden Oliver's all time attempts record is going to be safe for a good long while and Lou Corriere is safe until the forward pass is made illegal, it's conceivable that Johnson might be able to top 200 yards if the line comes together.
Single Game | Set by | Record | Game |
---|---|---|---|
Yards | Alan Bell | 266 | Duquesne (11/2/91) |
Attempts | Branden Oliver | 43 | Massachusetts (10/19/13) |
Touchdowns | Lou Corriere | 6 | Hobart (11/7/42) |
Season | Set by | Record | Game |
Yards | Branden Oliver | 1,535 | 2013 |
Attempts | Branden Oliver | 310 | 2013 |
Touchdowns | Lee Jones / James Starks | 16 | 1966/2008 |
It's also worth noting that Johnson is only 316 yards out of the all time top 10 at Buffalo. That's not going to happen this Friday but he could get there before conference play starts.
Passing Records
Tyree Jackson and Grant Rohach will each be playing their first year as a Bull so, once again, career marks are out the window. Also the two splitting time this week keeps the single season records safe.
Game | Set by | Record | Game |
---|---|---|---|
Yards | Joe Licata | 497 | at Toledo (11/12/13) |
Completions | Joe Licata | 36 | at Toledo (11/12/13) |
Attempts | Joe Licata | 58 | Bowling Green (10/3/15) |
Touchdowns | Marty Barrett | 6 | Alfred (11/12/83) |
Season | Set by | Record | Game |
Yards | Drew Willy | 3,304 | 2008 |
Completions | Drew Willy | 304 | 2008 |
Attempts | Drew Willy | 468 | 2008 |
Touchdowns | Joe Licata | 29 | 2014 |
But perhaps if either sufficiently out plays the competition and wins the job 100% then some season records may be in danger this year.
I suspect before he is done at UB that Tyree Jackson should challenge for some top 5 record book placements, if not for outright records.
Receiving
Once again a lot of turnover here means that career records are safe. Marcus McGill has an outside chance of cracking the top 10 in a couple of categories this year but it's going to be quite a few weeks before we're there.
