Mabry, a native of Ypsilanti, followed two Lincoln High School classmates to IMG Academy in Florida. IMG Academy is a private athletic training institute located in Bradenton, offering academic and athletic development services to many young athletes seeking a chance at NCAA athletics. You pay tuition while in high school to earn a ride in college, and for Mabry it worked out. He had been planning to go to Southern Illinois but would instead come to UB where he is slated to play tight end. As a senior, he caught a pair of touchdowns as a primarily blocking tight end and scored on a fumble recovery. His change of heart regrading SIU happened when K.J. Osborn, a long time friend and teammate at IMG, committed to Buffalo. "The reason why I'm choosing Buffalo over SIU is because of the better education and the competition level that Buffalo is at,. Another plus is that I'm going to be playing with my best friend since seventh grade, K.J. Osborn."
