Nice surprise from Football today, as Mark Gaughan reports that Lance Leipold has added another defensive lineman with college experience in Joe Keels, who transfers as a fifth-year senior from Nebraska.
Keels only played five games with Nebraska after transferring in from JUCO Highland Community College and before missing all of last season to an injury. Out of Highland, he was highly regarded by 247, who had him as a high three-star recruit and one of the five best available defensive lineman in the 2014 class.
Upon leaving Nebraska, Keels was initially set to transfer to Eastern Michigan. It's unclear initially what happened there, though Joe has had a tough road since leaving Highland, as detailed in this must-read piece from 2015 in the Lincoln Journal-Star.
