UB has not even secured Bowl eligibility yet, but it’s still fun to talk about.
The Bulls have won three in a row, and with three games left are 5-4, looking to finish the season strong and make a bowl game. Assuming they are up to the task and finish with seven or eight wins, where are they projected?
Camellia Bowl (Dec. 21, 5:30 p.m., ESPN)
- Cramton Bowl, Montgomery, Alabama
- Bonagura (ESPN): Buffalo vs. Louisiana
This is a MAC vs Sun Belt bowl which has went decidedly the way of the Belt since it’s inception. Bowling Green won the initial game in 2014 but the MAC is 0-3 since then.
It’s a fine city for Bowl but the match-up against that Sun Belt west leading Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns would be a difficult one.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Jan. 3, 3:30 p.m., ESPN)
- Albertsons Stadium, Boise, Idaho
- Schlabach (ESPN): Wyoming vs. Buffalo
Please no...
I know some of you loved the last trip and Boise is a lovely city but it’s in the middle of nowhere and is prohibitively expensive for quick travel arrangements. Heck if I wanted to drive there it’s 21 hours and I have a 14-16 hour head start on the Buffalo fan base.
There will be plenty of MAC teams who should be saddled with us before this, just based on who has played it.
UB last played this Bowl in 2013, since then Akron, Central, and Western Michigan have played it.
Armed Forces Bowl (January 4, 11:30 a.m, ESPN)
Stadium Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas
- January 4, 11:30 a.m, ESPN
- 247 & Palm : Buffalo vs. Air Force
The Big Ten is coming up a wee bit short on Bowl teams this season, sure they have eight teams at six wins, but with OSU looking to go to the playoff they are going to be way short of meeting their allotment.
So the Armed Forces Bowl will be looking for a fill in and both 247 and Palm have Buffalo as the choice.
Air Force would be a beat of an opponent for us, they’ve only lost two game and both of those teams are now ranked.
But the bowl itself is a great draw if Buffalo gets it.
Boca Raton Bowl (December 21 3:30, ESPN)
- FAU Stadium, Boca Raton, Florida
- Kirk: Buffalo vs. Western Kentucky
Not thrilled about the date, I actually prefer the later Bowls than the early ones but that’s just my personal preference.
WKU is a fair match-up for Buffalo. If UB brings their A game they can give the Hilltoppers a lot of trouble.
