Boise Ross Suspended For Albany Game

Boise Ross will be suspended

30 minutes before kickoff Jon Scott of Time Warrner Cable News and Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News both tweeted that UB star cornerback Boise Ross will not play in tonight’s game.

We’ve now learned that Ross’ suspension should be for this game only, a shame considering the 49ers and Eagles scouts in Amherst today were likely coming in part because of the senior defender.

Ross set a UB single season record last year for passes defended and was named to the Jim Thorpe award watchlist as one of the top defensive backs in the country this summer.

Last season Ross emerged as one of the best in the Mid-American Conference in 2015, his first full season playing cornerback. Ross ranked second in the MAC and tied for fifth in the nation in passes defended with 20. His 18 pass breakups and two interceptions set a new school record for passes defended in a season. He had 52 tackles to rank sixth on the team.

Ross being out will mean that Brandon Williams may get the start. Last year Williams appeared in all 12 games as a reserve cornerback and on special teams, totaling 12 tackles and a forced fumble on the season.
