Buffalo Bulls Playing Professional Baseball

Mike Kaelin joins the rotation after getting drafted by the Anaheim Angels. He becomes the third active UB pitcher in the minors along with Mike Burke and Steve Geltz.

I've not seen anything yet but I suspect that Kaelin is on his way out to Orem, Utah where he will play for the Orem Owlz. The Owlz are Anaheim's rookie club and a likely stop for a player taken in the later rounds of the draft.

The Owlz play in the Pioneer League, which is a rookie-level league with an abbreviated schedule. They won the 2004 and 2005 Pioneer League championship. The also had championships in 2007 and 2009.

The Owlz play their home games at Brent Brown Ballpark, on the campus of Utah Valley University.

Tom Murphy - It's not all pillow fights and unicorn farts in Alberqueue.

Murphy has racked up 31 strikeouts against only three walks in 91 plate appearances of AAA ball. The good news for Murphy is that 32 of his 56 hits in Triple-A have gone for extra bases. It's becoming apparent that if he wants to make the next step he will need to work some more walks out of opposing pitchers.

Mike Burke - The extended spring training did Mike Burke some good! He had two great showings in the past seven days.

Last Monday he put in two innings of relief work and in that time he gave up not hits, no walks, and he struck out two batters. And then he followed that up with three hitless innings which secured his first Advanced-A" win.

Keys Pitchers Shutout Nationals Twice in Doubleheader | Frederick Keys News
The righty Jones, making his first start since May 8, pitched four innings of three-hit ball in the front-end. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three. Burke (1-0) followed with three hitless innings and four strikeouts to earn his first Advanced-A victory.

Steve Geltz - Geltz played twice this week and worked in a save in one of the games.

DURM Downs Tides in Comeback Fashion | Durham Bulls News
The Bulls (28-34) - who wore specially designed jerseys by Durham-based clothing company RUNAWAY for DURM Night - took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jake Goebbert blasted a two-out, two-run home run over the right field wall to put the home side in front 3-2. The bullpen did the rest over the final two innings, with Steve Geltz notching his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Nick Sinay - Nothing official yet but I have seen some chatter which indicates he is on his way out to Vancouver.

The Vancouver Canadians are Tornoto's "Short-A" squad and pley in the Northwest League. They are the only Canadian team in the "affiliated" minor leagues.
