Five sports in action for UB this weekend

Matt Gritzmacher

The next six weeks are going to be the busiest of the year for UB athletics. After this coming weekend, all spring teams but the diamond sports will be underway, while the winter sports are just hitting the peak of their season. So that will be fun.

This weekend in Bull we've got a little bit of everything:

FRIDAY

Wrestling @ Old Dominion, 7:00 PM

SATURDAY

Track and Field @ Cornell Upstate Challenge, All Day

Men's Tennis @ Yale, 10:00 AM

Swimming and Diving @ EMU, 1:00 PM

SUNDAY

Wrestling @ Ohio, 1:00 PM

Women's Tennis @ St. Bonaventure, 1:00 PM

Men's Tennis vs Colgate (@ Yale), TBA

So if you live in Western New York, enjoy your weekend off from heading to UB, I guess, as everyone but Women's Basketball is on the road.

Lots of tough tests this weekend. Wrestling will once again face strong MAC competition, as Old Dominion has eight ranked wrestlers in their lineup. There may be a chance of an upset at Ohio, as John tells me the Bobcats had similar results as UB when facing Kent State and Central Michigan.

I'll be eager to see the results from Track and Field in Ithaca. A number of Bulls set personal bests in the first meet of the season last weekend, and a number of higher-profile Bulls didn't compete.

The Tennis squads likewise have my interest early in the season. The women are replacing half their roster, but had a strong fall slate. Don't miss my season preview of them from earlier today. In Connecticut, the men take on Yale, Colgate, and perhaps some singles opponents from Monmouth. It would be nice to get a win versus the Elis.

The big draw in my eyes, though, is Swimming and Diving in Ypsilanti. We're starting to get an idea of how the Bulls stack up against the rest of the MAC, and EMU is a perennial power in the pool and on the track. I was a bit surprised by both the women's loss and men's victory last week in Oxford against the Redhawks, so this weekend will be big.

Go Bulls!
