When the NBA Summer league tips off in a couple of weeks it will start with the Dallas Mavericks and their new free agent signee, Javon McCrea. The first game, between the Mavs and the New York Nicks starts July 11 at 1 p.m. The games will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The NBA Summer leagues features a mix of rookies and some of the younger bench players to see how well some players work with others. The main benefit for fans, as well as the media, is to get a preview of the top rookies and how they will fit into the NBA and how they transition from college basketball to the NBA.
For the second year, the summer league will be a tournament-style event. Three games will be used to seed the teams and then the tournament, which tips off on July 16 and runs through the Championship Game on July 21, will be used to crown a champion. Each team will play no fewer than five games during Samsung NBA Summer League 2014.
