Bulls Get Off and Running Early

The University at Buffalo Men's Ice Hockey team got off to a strong start this weekend. After scheduling errors occurred with Washington & Jefferson, the Bulls sought out other teams to fill in for the weekend. The D'Youville Spartans and the Medaille Mavericks answered the call to play the Bulls Friday and Saturday respectively.

Buffalo 14 D’Youville 1

Friday night’s newly scheduled game put the Bulls up against the Spartans. Chris Marsack started off the scoring for the Bulls within the first minute of play. Moments later Matt Ganci netted his first of the season and the Bulls were off and running. Ganci added two more goals for the hat trick and wasn’t alone as freshman Willie Sanchez also put in 3 goals. Notables in the game were Mike Schalberg (4 assists), Dimitrios Koutsomitis (1 goal, 3 assists), and Chris Covel (2 goals, 1 assist).

Buffalo 9 Medaille 1

Saturday night was much of the same, although it took the Bulls a little longer to get going. The Bulls struck first with a goal from Justin Wormley with an assist from Shane Hurley, his first career point as a member of Buffalo’s club. Medaille came right back with a goal of their own to tie the game 1-1. After a poor first period, the Bulls bounced back and kept coming. They scored 8 unanswered goals to go on and win 9-1. Notable players included Tim Benner (3 goals, 2 assists), Matt Ganci (1 goal, 2 assists), and Craig Meany, whose 2nd period goal from the point changed the face of the game.

The Bulls have a pair of games lined up this weekend with Duquesne. Both games will be at the Northtowns Center at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday. There will be a post game party with team members upstairs in the Northtowns Center at the Skybox Grill after both games. The Bulls really like the fan support and hope to feed off it again this weekend. Games will continue to be broadcasted on WRUB, and the game is free for students to attend with their UB card.
