We're into the parts of the roster where some numbers are claimed on both sides of the ball. 43 days to kick was a few days ago, but here's Nick Gilbo's preview.
Who is wearing #43 in 2015?
Nick Gilbo
Hometown: Port Henry, New York
Year: Redshirt-Senior
Position: Linebacker
High School: Moriah Central
Freshman (2011): Gilbo played at Hudson Valley Community College where he earned second-team defensive All-American honors after recording 72 tackles and 5 sacks.
Sophomore (2012): Gilbo walked on to UB and redshirted.
Redshirt-Sophomore (2013): Gilbo played 6 games recording 17 tackles, including 9 against Ohio State and Baylor. Gilbo caught an interception against UConn, forced a fumble against Ohio State and recorded 1 sack and 2 TFLs.
Redshirt-Junior (2014): Gilbo played in 11 games recording 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 4 TFLs and a fumble recovery.
Outlook: Gilbo looks to make his first career start week 1. As of now, Gilbo is the biggest of the starting linebackers at 6' 226 pounds, 22 pounds lighter than Khalil Mack was at UB. UB can play light, but they will need sure tacklers, and a lot of the responsibility for making sure runners are stopped short of the secondary will fall on Gilbo.
