UB Men's Tennis Assistant Coach gets shot with the pros at US Open
"Schafer was an elite junior and collegiate player, but he gave up playing competitive tennis to attend law school in the hopes of one day working in a front office of a major professional sports team, organization or league. He starts law school at the University of Buffalo this week and split his final week of vacation alternating between a keyboard and a tennis racquet.
The 6-foot-4 righty has been interning in the USTA’s corporate offices in White Plains, N.Y., over the summer, and he arrived at the US Open in a button-down shirt and dress pants, never imagining the turn his job would take. Like when Portugal’s’ Joao Souza needed a hitting partner early Sunday morning ahead of his first-round match against Victor Estrella Burgos and Schafer was called in as the emergency backup when no one else was available."
