Baseball - Buffalo Bulls 3 , Marist 8 : UB scores some runs but still stays winless

After losses to Air Force and Davidson the the Buffalo Bulls baseball team wrapped up their weekend by taking on Marist. The Bulls lost the game by a score of 8 to 3.

This was the first game of the weekend where UB batted as the "home" team but that did not help the Bulls emerge from the first inning sporting a deficit.

UB Fresman Charlie Sobieraski got the start and the second batter he faced tapped him for a double, two batters later another double got Marist up. They would draw back to back walks and then use a single to drive in two more runs.

Sobieraski would hit a batter in the second inning. After he stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error Marist drove in their fourth run of the day.

For the first time this season UB got on the board when Vinnie Mallaro and Christ Kiwtzer put up back to back hits with two outs and nobody on. Kwitzter would steal second forcing Marist to walk Ben Vey but freshman catcher Connor Regan hit into a fielders choice to end the inning.

Shawn Dubin, a JUCO transfer from Allegheny relieved Sobieraski to start of the sixth and put down the first five batters he faced. In the seventh though, with two outs, the Red Foxes figured out Dubin and started pounding away.

Three singles, a wild pitch, and another single upped the Marist total by three runs and forced UB to bring in Sophomore Logan Harasta to stop the bleeding.

Harasta came on with a runner on first who then stole second and took advantage of a wild pitch to get onto third. The Junior hurler stayed composed and put down the next two batters in order to get out of the seventh.

In the eighth inning a fielding error would lead to the only run, an unearned run, given up by Harasta.

The Bulls first really productive inning of the season came in the bottom of the eighth, trailing 8-1. It started with one out when Kwitzer hit a one out double and moved the third base on a passed pitch. Ben Vey hit an RBI double to give the Bulls their second run of the game.

Vey was moved to third by a Regan single to short and then Vey scored when Mike Abrunzo put a single into left field. That chased the Marist reliever out of the game.

The Bulls tried to push for more by bringing Andrew Taft in to pinch hit but all he managed was a fielders choice with Abrunzo put out at second. Alex Thrower grounded out to end the UB threat in the 8th with the score Marist 8 and UB 3.

That is that score that would hold as neither team could manage any runs in the 9th.

Player of the game:

Chris Kwitzer went two for five and drove in UB's first run of the season. Then in the eighth he scored UB's second run of the year He also added a stolen base a put out, and two assists.
