Team USA Comes Back Against Cuba Will play for gold in Toronto Pan American Games

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

It took a late inning comeback but Team USA beat CUba for the second time in a week and in doing so secured a spot in the gold medal game of the 2015 Pan American Games. The Americans will face the survivor of tonights Puerto Rico vs Canada game.

Down four runs deficit in the seventh inning before Jankowski and Tyler Pastornicky both came through with clutch, two-run doubles. Among the base runners who scored in the sequence is New Britain Rock Cat, and former Buffalo Bull, Thomas Murphy.

Murphy was 1-3 on the day with a run scored.

Cuba tried to break the lead in their half of the 9th inning as they loaded the bases with just one out. David Huff extracted the Americans from the inning with no damage when he forced Frederich Cepeda to line out to center.

Team USA started their half of the 9th by surrendering two quick outs. It was not until Travis Jankowski worked a full count into a single that the Americans started to do damage. Jankowsk the count full before lining a single to center. After stealing second Parrino hit the ball over the first base mans head through the right side to bring the winning run home and set off a massive celebration on the field.

If the Americans are triumphant tomorrow it will be the nations first Pan american gold since 1967.
