Buffalo Bulls Baseball beats Lafayette Leopards 2-1

After losing to Rutgers in extra innings yesterday the Buffalo Bulls used strong pitching to snap their two game losing streak. Anthony Magnovey pitched seven strong innings, giving up just one hit and three runs and the two runs UB scored in the second inning were enough of a pad for Kevin Hughes who earned the save.

Buffalo scored all the runs they would need in the second inning.

Tyler Mautner led off the inning by getting to first on a throwing error. After Mike Burke flied out to center Chris Kwitzer hit a triple scoring Mautner. The next batter up, Nick Sinay, was hit by a pitch. Sinay forced a throwing error by the catcher when he stole second and that allowed Kwitzer to score an unearned run for the Bulls.

UB was threatening again after Sinay stole third base. The Bulls were unable to convert however as Scarcello flied out the very next at bat.

Then it was the Magnovey show. The Buffalo Pitcher kept the Leopards off the board. Kevin HUges pitched a strong eighth inning but lead off the ninth hitting a batter. Lafayette then got a single to put the tying run on base. A sac fly scored a run and put the tying run in scoring position.

Kevin Huges gathered himself forcing a line drive out before striking out the final batter of the day.

UB is now 8-4 and will face Virginia Commonwealth tomorrow.
