Mens College Basketball - Buffalo loses to Kent

It was another long painful night and not even a super human effort by Javon McCrea could get Buffalo over the top in their quest to get a Mid American Conference win.

Kent got solid performances from Randal Holt (27 points) and Chris Evans (25 points) and that was enough to help Kent State pull away late for a win over Buffalo Wednesday night. The Buffalo Bulls trailed most of the game until a 13-4 run led to a 60-56 advantage with 9:29 left.

The teams exchanged the lead three times until Kent's Devareaux Manley scored five straight points to put Kent State ahead 69-66 with 4:42 left. The points started a 16-2, game-ending run for Kent State, with Buffalo held scoreless after Javon McCrea's two free throws with 1:59 left.

McCrea made 15 of 15 free throws and led the Bulls with a career-high 33 points, Will Regan and Jarryn Skeete scored 9 each. Outside of that trio the Bulls were help completely in check except at the foul line. Outside of McCrea UB only scored seven field goals and stayed in the game by shooting 33 of 38 from the line.

Three Point Shot:

Point 1: I take it all back Javon!

I thought one of the missing ingredients to this team was a player with the personality to take over a game and carry the team to victory. Tonight McCrea proved, without a doubt, that one player can not win a game. If 33 points, 10 rebounds, a perfect 15 for 15 shooting free throws, 2 steals, and four blocks cant carry a team than pretty much nothing can.

The problem is not that McCrea can't replace Mitchell Watt, the problem is that McCrea has replaced wat but nobody has stepped up to fill the roles that Zach Filzen and McCrea filled last seaon.

Point 2: What a Waste!

33-38 from the line, that just sy of 87% shooting. You just know somewhere this season we are going to lose a game because of a garbage night from the line. UB threw out a golden ticket tonight, you don't get too many chances to drop 30 points by shooting free throws.

Point 3: MAC Refs Strike Again!

They did not cost Buffalo the game but they sure as heck made it difficult for either team to wear the other down. The MAC refs seemed to be practicing for a sobriety test... 55 fouls? yesh..
