With the college football signing window approaching, I wanted to look into the recruiting needs of the UB Bulls. While this post is specific to the defensive side of the ball, a similar article was published a couple days ago, to discuss the offensive side of the team. Before that, this journey began by looking into how much experience the third string has gotten this season.
All of the current defensive tackles should return next year. At least none of them are seniors. The current experience of some of the players looks a little thin. But by the end of next season, the depth of the projected to be returning players should look more well rounded than it does right now.

Malcom Koonce and Taylor Riggins are currently the only two seniors in the next group, and they will be difficult to replace, whenever they leave. But there are a few other defensive ends who should have about 20 games of experience by the end of this season. And a couple more younger players who are already getting time, and showing good promise further into the future.

For as often as the absence of Riggins has been mentioned, I don't recall hearing nearly as much about Justin Mulbah. I wouldn't think he is being played off the field, but Rich Miller (who has two years less experience) already has nearly as many appearances. With a couple seniors in the group of linebackers, it would be nice if Justin can come back.

If it wasn't already, the following table should make it clear just how much the absence of Aapri Washington has meant to the team so far this season. Another unexpected challenge has been being without Wankeith Akin's experience. Roy Baker and Ali Abbas are the only seniors. Their loss would be noticeable, but if others return healthy, the unit shouldn't see much of a drop next year. Especially with the emergence of Logic Hudgens.

E.J. Brown's experience at safety can't be seen in these tables, but after watching him play, the transfer clearly has it. It appears to me that this might be the defensive unit in most need of replenishment.
