UB Volleyball adds 2nd 6-4 Player, transfer Polina Prokudina from Syracuse

UB Volleyball has announced that sophomore Polina Prokudina has transferred from Syracuse. Prokudina is a 6–4 outside hitter who had a 16 kill performance against ACC foe Virginia Tech. However, Prokudina's season hitting percentage of 0.124 is on the low side for an outside hitter. Prior to Syracuse, the Moscow, Russia native played for Russian teams, including winning the Russian Country Championship in 2015. Here's an interview with Prokudina in February of 2017.

Prokudina is the tallest outside hitter in recent memory for the Bulls, and this gives the Bulls two 6–4 pin hitters (the other being incoming freshman right-side Marija Babič), and two 6–3 middle blockers (junior Megan Wernette and transferring sophomore Kristina Nieves). Add in the 6-2 incoming freshman outside hitter Andrea Mitrovic (who was 6–1 when first announced she was joining the Bulls) and 6–1 junior Valisha Watkins, also an outside hitter, and suddenly Buffalo could have one of the tallest front lines in the MAC.

The drawback (if there is one) is that the team is once again heavy with newcomers, six in all. In recent seasons, the Bulls have always had at least six newcomers (sometimes as many as eight), and often the team struggled to find a line-up that worked. And while coach Blair Brown Lipsitz has done a good job of recruiting front row players, the back row is still somewhat undermanned with only three true back row players (many teams use a libero and three defensive specialists in their regular rotation), so no real depth there.
