Date: Thursday, August 29th
Time: 7:00pm note: I had CST before
Venue: UB Stadium
Series History: None, this is the fist ever meeting between these two programs
About Robert Morris:
The Colonials first fielded a football team in 1994, two years after UB was joined the division one ranks. After two years as an independent they joined the Northeast Conference.
For the first 20 years of their programs history they were coached by Joe Walton. Walton is the winningest coach in NEC history having retired at 114 career victories and a 74-47 record against league foes.
The program experienced their best run of success in the late 1990’s, winning the NEC five straight seasons from 1995-2000.
Since Walton retired the Colonials have struggled, they are now under second year coach Bernard Clark.
Last season Robert Morris managed two wins over D-II opponents Virginia State and Central State but went winless against Division one competition. The loss of linebacker Adam Wollett, one of their best ever on defense, is going to mean this year will also be a challenge.
What to watch out for:
Matthew Gonzalez is a great pass catching tight end that might be a challenge for a UB secondary that is replacing a lot of pieces. Last season he had 40 receptions fo 642 yards and 12 touchdowns.
A few years Back UB got a quaint reminder that you can’t overlook any team, even and FCS team.
That and a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball could make this game closer than many Buffalo fans would like to think, especially in the early goings of the game.
Expect UB to win the game, but don’t be shocked if it’s not a laugher.
