Rutgers:
Financially the Big10 has been very good to Rutgers. They share in that big fat TV contract, they are in a contract conference, and their conference opponents at home are some of the biggest names in college football.
On the field though it’s been a big adjustment.
In eight of the nine seasons before Rutgers joined the Big-10 they were a bowl team, they made a bowl in year one of their Big-10 tenure, but since then they have fallen off badly.
In their last three seasons the Scarlet Knights are 10-26.
Last season they dropped a home game to EMU, on paper Rutgers seems to be a power five team that UB can steal a win from, but third year coach Chris Ash did manage two conference wins and a 4-8 record.
History:
Buffalo is 1-5 all time against Rutgers, with the lone win coming back in 2002.
This Years Game:
2015 and 2016 seemed to be the “bottoming out” for Rutgers. Last year they struggled but won four games and are probably going to use a ton of grad transfer talent to try and get up to six games this season.
They have a ton of grad talent coming in and will prestent a real challenge to UB.
UB has the tools to put up points on Rutgers but the Bulls are going to have to work for the win. The Scarlet Knights are not the easy mark they had been for the past couple of seasons.
