Buffalo Bulls Football Vs. Florida Atlantic Owls

NCAA Football: Buffalo at Army Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

It’s game week, or has some have been calling it, Lane Kiffin Week! The Florida Atlantic Owls are coming in to Buffalo off a 45-0 win against an FCS school that pushed them to 1-2 overall. In the Owls two FBS games they have lost by a combined score of 73-33. This should be a good game for the Bulls to see if they’re ready to compete this year. This is the first FBS game that they are expected to win so it will be interesting to see how they handle this game.

The Bulls are coming off their best game of the season against FCS Colgate where they dominated right out of the gate. A final score of 33-10 is exactly what you need when playing a sub par school, and it was nice to see UB get the job done. The big issue is still second half scoring, in which the Bulls have just 3 points in 3 games after half time. Let’s take a look at what we should look for in this Saturday’s match up.

What To Watch For

Second Half Scoring

As I mentioned earlier, the Bulls have not scored well in the second half. Three points in three games to be exact. Buffalo will not have success this season if they don’t start making halftime adjustments. I would love to see the Bulls score two touchdowns in the second half against a weaker team and keep the momentum for 60 minutes.

Will The Run Game Continue

Against Colgate the Bulls ran the ball well. Emmanuel Reed rushed for over 100 yards and was given the ball all game. This was the first time we really saw the Bulls commit to the run. Hopefully this was more a sign of recommitting to the ground game versus running the ball to kill time.

Can the defense shut down FAU

FAU has not scored well against FBS teams. The Bulls defense has played well this season allowing just 16 points per game. If they play as well as they should, FAU can be neutralized. My biggest hope is that the defense doesn’t give up too many yards in this game, something that has been a struggle early in the season. A dominating game by this unit would be a great boost heading in to MAC play.

Final Thoughts

I think the Bulls are coming away with a win tomorrow. I abhor saying that I expect a win but this is a must get if the Bulls want to fight for bowl contention. I fully believe that is plausible with a weak MAC East. I think UB wins by a final score of 27-9. The defense will be lights out and Tyree Jackson will control this game from start to finish. I’m excited for another week at home and you should be too. Until next time, go bulls!
