UB 4 - Villanova 2 : Instant Reactions

After dispatching of Norfolk State by scoring early and often UB relied on their pitchers against Villanova.

A slow offensive start by the Bulls batters did not trouble Anthony Magnovney who threw 7 and a third  shutout innings as the Bulls improved to 2-0 on the season.

Villanova 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 2 5 3
Buffalo 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 0 4 8 1

Buffalo started the scoring in the bottom of the first when Topps was brought in on a Tyler Mautner sacrifice fly but after loading the bases with no outs UB walked away with one run and two stranded in scoring position. They would strand two more on base in the second inning.

The runners left on base let Villanova stay in the game but Magovney was just too strong on the mound. The score remained un changed until Mautner hit s triple to bring Matt Pollock in for Buffalo's second run in the fifth inning.

Then Burke scored in the sixth and Richard brought Mautner around in the seventh. Ben Hartz would take over on the mound half way through the eighth.

Villanova finally got on the board in the 9th with a two run shot by Connor Jones but by that point it was too late. Hartz would force a double play and the game ended with a score of Buffalo 4 and Villanova 2.

UB is now 2-0 on the season and will round out the Spartan Classic tomorrow morning against  Quinnipiac. Mike Burke should be Buffalo's pitcher.
