Talking Bull: Mount USA wants to Kill the Sun Belt, The Sun Belt will rise again

First off here is the supposed menu for the Mount USA Conference

College Conference Realignment: Sun Belt Could Add Charlotte, Merge With WAC - SBNation.com
Confirming parts of earlier reports, Wilner says Fla. International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, San Jose St., Texas-San Antonio and Utah State are up for MOUNT USA consideration.

So what becomes of the Belt?

No it won't die but it might just "save" the WAC

As for what happens to the hypothetically gutted Sun Belt and WAC, Wilner cites the possibility of the two conferences merging. Charlotte has a Sun Belt invite, he also reports.

So UTSA could go from no program, to FCS, to DI (WAC), to D1 (SunBelt)

And all of this could happen before the first recruited freshman graduates!

2012 Texas-San Antonio Football Preview: Larry Coker And Feasibility Studies - SBNation.com
Years of preparation? Who needs 'em? Not the WAC's UTSA, which takes the FBS plunge in just its second year of existence. Coach Larry Coker has some intriguing pieces with which to work, but does he have enough of them to justify this ambitious a move?

Western Michigan Wins the CCHA Title - Hustle Belt
After 2 days of hockey, some very very good and exciting hockey, we have a CCHA Champion. The Western Michigan University Broncos outlasted a last Michigan surge Saturday to capture their first CCHA title since 1986, and only their 2nd title ever. This ensures their first ever back-to-back appearance in the NCAA tournament by virtue of the auto-bid.

Boy it would have been cool if Bowling Green had manged to save that conference!

Swimming Makes Waves on the National Stage - Sports - The Spectrum - University at Buffalo
Sophomore Brittney Kuras finished 32nd in the 100-yard freestyle, 24th in the 200-yard freestyle and 35th in the 200-yard medley. She broke her own records in both the individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

...

Kuras is only a sophomore and has two more years to compete at Buffalo. Bashor is excited to see how the rest of the team reacts after watching Kuras compete at such a high level. The Zone ‘A’ Qualifying meet for divers also took place in Alumni Arena over the break. At the end of the meet the top four divers on both the men and women’s side earned an invitation to the NCAA championship meet.

Be good to the band members... It's the law!

Jamaal Bass Tackling A Toledo Band Member Is Now A Criminal Thing - Hustle Belt
But we're far from it. For something that happened four months ago, Bass now needs to answer to a criminal court in Toledo as he was charged with two counts of assault, one a second-degree felony and one a first-degree misdemeanor. This news comes via Huskiewire, who says the Toledo Blade reported it, but I couldn't locate that URL. In any event, here's the direct link to the court document.

Bulls Prepared For Breakthrough in 2012 - Buffalo Athletics
The Bulls, who averaged over 30 points per game at home last season, lose only two offensive starters and just three from a defense that returns nine of its top 12 tacklers. Quinn has put together an impressive staff that has been part of teams that have won a pair of Super Bowl titles, eight national championships and 26 conference crowns. The staff, which added defensive coordinator Lou Tepper (former head coach Illinois, Edinboro and Indiana, PA) and defensive backfield coach Maurice Linguist this winter, has been a part of 75 bowl games and has coached in eight national championship games.

Tepper brings UB a ton of experience - UB Football - The Buffalo News
A chance meeting with longtime acquaintance William Inge opened a door Tepper feared had closed. The two crossed paths heading into a clinic at the national coaches convention in January. Inge suggested they sit down and talk some defense. Two hours later, Inge asked Tepper to excuse him for a minute. He had to make a phone call. Earlier in the day, unbeknownst to Tepper, Inge had accepted an offer to become assistant defensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills. That meant that the University at Buffalo had a vacancy at defensive coordinator. Inge's phone call was to Bulls head coach Jeff Quinn. Inge said he was sitting with his potential replacement. Quinn joined up with them and in February, Tepper became UB's defensive coordinator.
