Angres Thorpe hired on as a Basketball Assistant

Jim Whitesell added a new coach to the Buffalo staff today. He hired Angres Thorpe who had last been coaching at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

Thorpe has been coaching as an assistant or associate coach for more than 20 years, and has done two stints in the Mid American conference. He worked at Ball State (2000-2001) and Toledo (2010-2013).

After becoming the associate head coach at Toledo in 2013 he was hired by the UMKC Roos and had been there until the Roos made a coaching change after this past season.

But in his time at UMKC he helped guide the school to their best ever basketball season in 2016-2017. That year the Roos were selected for a postseason tournament for the first time in the program’s 30-year Division I history, the CIT.

He’s not the young counter weight to Whitesell I was hoping for but he is an accomplished JUCO recruiting, bringing on LaVell “Pep” Boyd,

He’s a Chicago native, and played college hoops at St. Leo College (Fla.).
