Buffalo’s Davonta Jordan came up big for the Bulls as they won the first of three straight games against their area rivals.

Behind Jordan’s career-high 26 points UB was able to build a big lead over Griffs and hold off a late run to secure an 82-73 win over Reggie Witherspoon’s Canisius squad on Wednesday night.

Canisius jumped out to an early 8-2 lead at the 16:30 mark but would go almost 9 minutes without a field goal. During that time UB turned the tables on Canisius, going on an 18-1 run to take a lead they would never surrender.

A few times in the first half Canisius, led by Scott Hitchon’s career-high 29 points would close to within a few scores but UB was able to keep them from overtaking the Bulls.

The biggest scare came during a two minute scoring drought that allowed the Griffs to close to within two points in the last two minutes of the game.

A Davonta Jordan jumper gave UB a two score lead and then Jeenathan Williams took a pss from Ronaldo Segu and buried a three on the next UB possession to put the Bulls up seven with just 39 seconds left in the game.

Segu finished with 14 points, Williams had 12, and Josh Mballa put in an additional 11 points and nine rebounds.

Jayvon Graves and Antwain Johnson struggled from the field, going a combined 2-12
