NCAA Football Results - Buffalo's Opponents

Mike McGinnis

A quick look at how all of our opponents did this week.

Team Result Record Conference Record Next Opponent
Duquesne Bye 2-2 NEC 0-0 vs West Liberty

Army Yale 49 - Army 43 1-3 FBS IND - vs Ball State

Army Black Knights vs Yale Bulldogs Final Score: Rivalry Renewed, Indeed - Underdog Dynasty
After a closely contested first half, it looked like Army might start to pull away after Jerempy Timpf's pick-six put the cadets ahead by two scores, 28-14, early in the second half. However, the defense ran out of juice to stop Tyler Varga's one-man rushing attack, and eventually their lead vanished.

Baylor Baylor 49 - Iowa State 28 4-0 B12 1-0 at Texas

Baylor vs. Iowa State -- The Morning After -- Highlights, Links, Notes, Tweets - Our Daily Bears
Baylor is 4-0 for the second season in a row. We haven't done that since before World War II. I honestly believe that getting the W and getting out of Ames was about the only thing Briles and company cared about last night. They would have hoped for a sharper performance in the second half, I'm sure, especially since we once again yielded points immediately after retaking the field, but considering we were up 35-7 at the time, it's not that big a deal. The only problem I see with essentially shutting things down is doing it too early; it's not easy (or sometimes even possible) to flip that switch back on.

Norfolk St. Norfolk 15 - Morgan 14 1-4 MEAC 1-0 at Savanannah

Morgan State Bears vs. Norfolk State Spartans - Recap - September 27, 2014 - ESPN

Miami Buffalo 35 - Miami 27 0-4 MAC 0-1 vs UMass

Bulls Beat Miami 35 - 27 - Bull Run
On a beautiful day in Amherst, a paid attendance mark of 20,841, the Bulls could not ask for a better opponent to start the MAC portion of their schedule. In comes a team with 20 straight loses but with some talent coming over from Notre Dame and a new head coach. Buffalo and Miami trade two early touchdowns on the first possessions for both teams. Buffalo stops Miami and Buffalo goes up 14 – 7 very early in the first quarter. Sit down for my next statement because you may not believe it, the defense takes over. Both offenses struggle to move the ball until late in the second half when Miami scores to tie the game at 14 going into half.

BGSU BG 47 - UMass 42 2-2 MAC 1-0 vs Buffalo

FalconBlog--Triumphs and Trials in the BGSU Falcon Nation: Falcons Survive in Amherst
And that's true to a point. But it is a little bit like a surgeon operating on the wrong limb, forgetting to use anesthesia, dropping an instrument into the body, nicking an artery and then performing CPR to save the patient and taking credit for being a life-saver.

Falcon fans need to come to terms with one thing. This defense is not very good right now. We'll get to why in a second, but if BG is going to win games, it is going to be done like it was yesterday. This is who we are for the time being.

EMU Bye 1-3 MAC 0-0 at Akron

Brandon's Failure at Michigan a Warning for Lyke - Eagle Totem Eagle Totem
Here in Ypsilanti, it has been difficult not to notice the alarm bells ringing on the other side of Washtenaw Avenue. The once proud and mighty University of Michigan is in the midst of a downward spiral, the final destination of which is still unknown. Michigan’s athletic director, David Brandon, has led Michigan down a ruinous path, degrading what once made Michigan football meaningful. There is a lesson for our own athletic director, Heather Lyke, to learn from this downfall – the corporatization of college athletics is both poisonous and pernicious, completely out of touch with what fans truly want out of college football.

CMU Toledo 42 - CMU 28 2-2 MAC 0-1 vs Ohio

Toledo Rockets vs. Central Michigan Chippewas Football Final Score: Toledo wins 42-28 - Hustle Belt

Ohio Bobcats vs. Eastern Illinois Panthers: Ohio Rolls 34-19 - Hustle Belt
A.J. Ouellette and J.D. Sprague demonstrated why they should be Ohio's starters going forward as they led Ohio ti a victory of Eastern Illinois University

Akron Akron 21 - Pittsburgh 10 2-2 MAC 0-0 vs EMU

Pitt dominated. By Akron. At home. Season over? - Cardiac Hill
Pitt's 21-10 loss to Akron today is perhaps the most disappointing thing we've seen in the Paul Chryst era. I'm going to write more about this later today, but this loss trumps any prior low point that Pitt has endured since Chryst took the reins from Dave Wannstedt Mike Haywood Todd Graham.

Kent Virginia 45 - Kent 10 0-4 MAC 0-1 at NIU

Virginia Beats Kent State 45-13 - Streaking The Lawn

Bowling Green Falcons vs. UMass Minutemen Final: Falcons Hang On 47-42 - Hustle Belt
The beleaguered Bowling Green Falcon defense allowed another record setting performance by an opponent but came up with a big play at the end to seal a hard fought victory over the University of Massachusetts Minutemen, 47-42.
