Today was a day of upsets at the Northtown Center. It started when the Canisius Griffs upended #1 seeded Syracuse. That would open the door for #2 Buffalo to possibly repeat but first the Bulls would have to get past the three seed Niagara Purple Eagles.
For while it looked like the Bulls might do it. Half way through the second period UB held a 1-0 lead and was taking it to Niagara but then something changed.
In the later minutes of the second period NU started to out hustle Buffalo and it paid off with a late goal to tie the game going into the third. Between the periods Buffalo was not able to make the adjustments needed to recapture the initiative and a 2-0 Niagara third period ended UB's 2014 season.
UB's loan goal was scored by Marsack from Schalberg with 8:45 left in the second.
UB coach Sal Valvo will have to take stock of who the team is losing, and it's not an insignificant number of critical seniors. He will hit the recruiting trail and get ready for next years tryout.
