Javon McCrea breaks Buffalo Career Scoring Record

With his 20th point today against Kent State, Javon McCrea passed Rasaun Young and moved into the top spot in the UB record books.

At the beginning of the season, it seemed likely, but with a new coach we had bigger fish to fry. In the last month, it became apparent that it was just a matter of time.. Today, it's a reality. Senior Forward Javon McCrea is the all-time leading scorer in UB history.

Coming into this afternoon, McCrea needed 19 points to tie Rasaun Young's career 1,908 mark, and 20 to sit alone atop the books. The game didn't start too well for Javon or any of his teammates, as the Bulls faced an early 6-0 and not-so-early 19-7 deficit, and McCrea missed his first four shots.

But the senior forward has always feasted on Kent State, and came alive in the final nine minutes of the first half, heading into the break with 16 points, already nearly matching his season average. It certainly appeared that Rasaun Young's mark would fall before the final buzzer today.

The record bucket eventually came on a tip in with 17:26 remaining in the second half, bringing the score to 38 - 35.

While any quest to the neighborhood of 2,000 points requires solid production across all four years, McCrea's biggest leap forward came last season, when during his junior year the forward scored a UB-record 611 points. This year, while Javon has upped his per-game points output in 2013-2014, he's unlikely to again hit 600 thanks to a skimpy out of conference schedule and another lost game due to snowstorm. Ultimately, however, his 18.3 ppg, bolstered by a 21 ppg average over the last 10 contests, moved The Kraken into the top of the books anyway.

Congratulations to Javon McCrea - UB's ALL TIME Scoring Leader!
