The Buffalo Bulls traveled to the Kohl Center to take on #6 rated Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin came into the game 11 - 1. Wisconsin returns four starters from a 30 - 8 team who advanced to the final four last season. So this season the Bulls faced two teams who last season were in the final four. This game was Buffalo's seventh true road game and had to leave the toys under the tree and get back to work. Bulls looking for a fourth straight victory.
The Bulls came into the game as a 21 point road dog but did not show it to start the game. Tonight the Bulls came in inspired and credit Hurley for having the boys readys to play. Wisconsin started slow shooting 5 - 22 to start the half and the Bulls lead at the half 27 - 26. The Bulls were lead by Lamonte Bearden's quickness with the ball. Lamonte was the best player on the floor for the first half. The Badgers adjusted incredibly well in the second half and made Lamonte's night difficult.
The Bulls held the Badgers to just 31% shooting in the first half, that number skyrocketed to 55% in the second half and the Badgers took control of the game with a 14 - 0 run. In the end the Badgers were too much for the Bulls. Wisconsin's last game before tackling conference foe's earns a 68 - 56 victory. The Badgers who are deep at every position have been averaging 74.6 points so far this season.
This game was all about Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky. A beast in college basketball and had a line of 25 points (game leader) 11 rebounds (Justin Moss lead with 12) and two assists. Kaminsky with a huge three point play in the second half to push the lead into double digits. Up until that point, the Badger faithful were rather quiet and scared. The crowd stepped up with the team in the second half. The Badgers with a comfortable lead for the entire second half with a late rally by the Bulls.
Justin Moss lead the night with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bearden finished with 13 points, Shannon Evans 12, and Xavier Ford with 11.
It was Deja Vu all over again for the Bulls. Facing #1 Kentucky, the Bulls in a tight game at half only to be outpaced in the second half. Same script tonight versus Wisconsin. Hurley has his team playing well and not afraid of any team. Buffalo has two more out of conference games before we see how UB competes in the MAC. The next contest for the Bulls is Tuesday night in Vestal, NY as the Bulls travel, yet again, to take on Binghamton at 7 PM. The Bearcats are struggling to start the season sitting at 1 - 13. The Bulls are 7 - 3.
