Jon Steinbrecher you let us down and you let us down badly. It would be hard for me to think of a way not go be excited about another bowl tie in for the MAC but darn it all if you did not find the lest appealing option possible for our next Bowl game.
AL.com's Jon Soloman has confirmed that the new MAC bowl game will be owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television and will take place in Montgomery, Ala. starting in 2014.It will fature a MAC team versus a Sun Belt team. If that arrangement sounds vaguly familiar it's because we already have a Bowl game in Alabama versus a team from the Belt.
This Bowl likely replaces the Little Ceasers Bowl which is getting bullied out of Detroit meaning our three Bows feature one in Idaho and two in Alabama.
This game is going to be played in the newly renovated, but still 91-year-old, Cramton Bowl. The Cramton Bowl can seat 25,000 people making it a pretty small venue for a College Bowl game.
All I can say is that there better be some very nice quid pro quo going on here with ESPN. I'm talking AAC type TV revenue, maybe the upcoming Boca-Bowl? Hell can we at least get our parking validated when we move the MAC office to Connecticut.
I was really hoping that when the dust settled the MAC woudf have a bowl game against each of the other G5 conferences, that would be four bowl tie in's. I was also hoping for something near the MAC footprint though that might have been a bit to ask for. Why the MAC and ESPN have not looked at Indy is beyond me. It's the best, perhaps only remaining, venue in the MAC footprint for a bowl.
Am I wrong here? Am I expecting too much of our Commissioner to snag a bowl game against the AAC and CUSA?
