Coach Reggie Witherspoon led the Bulls for 14 seasons before being released this past season. Before he came to UB in their hour of need Witherspoon coached down the road at Erie Community College.

Now that he was looking for a job Witherspoon is heading back to the Division 3 SUNY school. But rather than coach the basketball team he is going to be in charge of the entire department. The Buffalo news has reported that Witherspoon is taking over as the Kats athletic director.

It's a good fit for Coach. He ran an impeccably well studied team. Over 14 years there was not one major issue with player performance and the teams played pretty well. He is a a Western New York fixture and his name recognition may help the school do even better in the NJCAA than they have.

While Witherspoon was landing at ECC his replacement was busy rounding out his new staff.

Bobby Hurley hired Nate Oats as an assistant coach. Oats comes to Buffalo from Romulus High School in Michigan, where he taught and coached one of the top high school basketball programs in the region.

In his time as head coach, he led the team to a 222-52 overall record and seven straight conference championships while going undefeated in conference play in the past four consecutive seasons.

His teams were ranked in the top 25 on three different occasions (2010, 2011, 2013) and made the Michigan Class A Final Four five times. More importantly, he oversaw a program that had a 100 percent graduation rate and 40 of his 42 seniors at Romulus continuing on to college.
