Non Revenue Roundup - UB's Got Jack!

The UB basket-bull battle of the sexes continue. When the women win the men lose and when the men win the women lose. And so it is that the Men's 2-4 conference record is mirrored by the ladies who are rocking a 4-2 record. That puts the women at 2nd in the MAC east and tied for 5th overall in the conference.

Quite a one year turnaround for a team that started conference play last season at 0-5 and then went on to win only four all season.

Here is the Grid

Team Record Conf This Week
Women's Basketball 13-6 4-2 Lost to Ball State, 69-55
Defeated Western Michigan, 63-44
Men's Tennis 2-0 0-0 Defeated Colgate, 7-0
Defeated Bryant, 6-1
Women's Tennis 2-0 0-0 Defeated Pittsburgh, 4-3
Wrestling 1-7 1-2 Lost to Ohio, 26-13
Men's Swimming 3-3 1-1 Lost to Eastern Michigan, 151.5-148.5
Women's Swimming 3-3 2-2 Lost to Eastern Michigan, 169-131
Men's Indoor Track and Field At SPIRE Midwest Open
Women's Indoor Track and Field At SPIRE Midwest Open

The Tennis teams are both out to a solid 2-0 start, the men kicked off their season by drubbing Colgate and Bryant while the women earned win number two when they edged out Pitt.

Bulls Open Spring Campaign With 4-3 Win Over Pittsburgh - Buffalo Athletics
Pittsburgh regained a 3-2 lead with a three-set victory at fifth singles, but the Bulls tied it up again as senior Tamara Markovic defeated Molly Wickman at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-3. That victory set up a winner take all match at third singles where sophomore transfer Laura Fernandez was facing Gabrielle Catanzariti. Fernandez dropped the first set, but came back to win the second set 6-4 and force a third set. That final set also went down to the wire before Fernandez claimed a 7-4 win in a third-set tiebreaker after being down 4-2 early to clinch the victory for the Bulls.

Swimming ran into the MAC powerhouse that is Eastern Michigan. EMU has owned swimming in the MAC for some time. UB beat them out for the MAC Championship a few years back and will challenge again this season but Saturday the Eagles were just too much for Buffalo.

Swimmers Put Together Valiant Effort But Fall Short to Eastern Michigan - Buffalo Athletics
UB's men got off to quick start as they won the opening relay. Matt Schwippert, Josh Meints, Zorsch and Dugan combined to take the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:30.75. Colin McAllister then posted a season-best 9:34.37 in winning the 1,000-yard freestyle as he passed EMU's Franco Petrone three-quarters of the way through the race and held on for the victory.

Track dominates, despite the lack of scoring. UB had a great outing at the SPIRE MidWest Open but the event does not keep track of team scores.

Bulls Win Eight Events at SPIRE Midwest Open - Buffalo Athletics
The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams won eight events and posted seven second-place finishes as the SPIRE Midwest Open came to a conclusion on Saturday.

Wrestling continues to struggle. It's that kind of season and Ohio is no team to trifle with when your hurt.

UB Wrestling Loses at Ohio - Buffalo Athletics
With the dual starting at 133, Ohio took the opening match but Buffalo ran back out front 7-3 after wins by Erik Galloway at 141 and Blake Roulo at 149. Galloway jumped up on Kagan Squire 6-2 after the first period and cruised to the win with a third period and riding time point to boost his score.

Soccer Grows their staff

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Riddle will do with the UB Soccer Program, maybe even interested enough to maybe learn a bit about the game.

New head men's soccer coach Stu Riddle rounded out his coaching staff this afternoon, announcing the addition of Rahim Mohamed and Cody Camp as his assistant coaches for the upcoming season. Mohamed comes to Buffalo after serving as an assistant coach in Canada for Forest City London Soccer Club of the USL's Premier Developmental League, and most recently serving as an assistant coach for Fanshawe College's women's soccer team in 2012.

Riddle also announced the addition of Cody Camp as the goalkeepers coach for UB. Camp was a former player under Riddle at Western Michigan before an injury led him to a new career as a coach. He joined the Bronco's staff in 2011 as a student assistant.
