Cornell Big Red at Buffalo Bulls Women's Basketball recap: Defense Prevails in 59-41 Win

UB Athletics

It was a big day for the Buffalo Bulls women's basketball team as they pulled out a very solid win over an athletic Cornell Big Red team. The big story of the day was the defensive prowess that this team continues to show. UB would cruise to an easy victory with a 59-41 effort. Their record improves to 4-0, which hasn't been done since the 2000-01 season.

The Bulls were lead once again by Joanna Smith with a 17 point effort off of 6-16 shooting. Although she had this strong effort, she did have some trouble with keeping the ball safe as she committed five turnovers by the end of the game. Shooting continued to be a problem as the team shot only 36% from the field but defense completely made up for this as the team out rebounded Cornell 47-30. UB also defeated Cornell on the offensive glass 18-10.

Katherine Ups also had a big afternoon as she was close to grabbing a double-double with her 10 points and 9 rebounds. Stephanie Reid and Karin Moss also had good days overall despite Moss shooting only 50% from the charity stripe and getting into foul trouble. Thanks to another incredible effort on the defensive side of the ball, Buffalo is expected to continue to lead the nation in scoring defense after allowing just 41 points to Cornell. On top of this scoring, UB held Cornell to a dismal 26% from the field.

The women are back in action on Saturday at 2:30 PM as they taking on UCF. This will be one of two games in the UCF Thanksgiving tournament.
