Volleyball falls in straight sets at Ohio

Now 0-2 in the MAC

VB Wernette UBCRED

Women’s Volleyball is 0-2 after the MAC’s opening weekend tonight thanks to a straight-set loss to Ohio. The Bobcats never trailed by more than two points in the 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 win.

UB did hit .228 to Ohio’s .225 on the night, one of their top offensive performances of the season but were undone by Ohio’s 13 aces.

Megan Wernette once again stood out for the Bulls, with 9 kills on 10 swings and 3 blocks. Three other Bulls had 5 or more kills, and Cassie Shado totaled 5 blocks. Valisha Watkins totaled only a pair of kills, but also only saw three swings as the offensive flowed more through Rachel Sanks and Madison Clark.

It’s tough to piece out a missing ingredient other than generally asking for better play across the board. Certainly Ohio was more dangerous in serving, but UB was perhaps unlucky to not pull out a win in the first set, and generally played with the Bobcats, if always a few points behind.

Regardless, the Bulls are still looking for their second win on the season. They’ll travel to Akron Thursday before their home opener against Ball State a week from today.
