On the heels of a strong recruiting class that should lay the foundation for the future of UB Men’s Tennis but also leaves Buffalo with a young team in 2016-17, Head Coach Nails Nickell announced today that the Bulls have added Vidit Vaghela, a junior transfer from Monmouth to the team.
Vaghela slotted in at #1 Singles and #2 Doubles for the Hawks last year as Monmouth advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning their first-ever MAAC Championship. Vidit was named Second Team All-MAC in both Singles and Doubles last year, finishing the year at 17-8 overall and 6-1 against MAAC foes.
The season prior, Vaghela earned First Team All-MAC honors at doubles alongside Victor Pugliese.
Vaghela has seen competition against the Bulls, falling 6-3, 7-5 to Ethan Nittolo this season, and playing to 2-6, 3-3 against Sergio Arevalillo two years ago before the conclusion of other matches ended the team competition.
We’ll see once fall competition starts up where Vidit falls into the UB lineup, but bringing in an upperclassman with NCAA Tournament experience is a good move for Nickell as he enters a new cycle of program building with his talented freshman class.
We’ll first see Vidit and the Bulls in action on September 9th in Napa Valley, CA for the Silverado Invitational.
