For the second straight season, Men's Soccer graduates just three seniors in front of a loaded group of underclassmen. Only one spent all four years in Buffalo, but with the Bulls on the brink of their first MAC Tournament appearance since 2011, they're part of a cornerstone of UB's growing success.
Nicolay Netskar - F - Oppegaard, Norway
Senior Stats: Netskar has seen less time than we anticipated this season, making two starts over nine appearances, but does have an assist to his credit.
Before UB: Netskar starred at D-II Wheeling Jesuit, scoring six goals and assisted on just as many. He was named All-Conference First Team.
UB Career: Nicolay's never made the jump to starter, but has been a regular off the bench since arriving in Amherst with 37 career appearances. He tallied a single goal in each of his first two seasons.
Senior moment: Netskar's lone point of the season came on a critical goal: Hunter Walsh's late equalizer against Stony Brook that helped UB earn a draw against their in-state rivals.
Marcus Hanson - F - Mississauga, ON
Senior Stats: Hanson has seen plenty of the field, making 12 starts, and has maintained his high assist rate from last year. His lone goal so far came against West Virginia.
Before UB: A multi-sport athlete at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Hanson led his team to a 15-3 record as a senior while being named Athlete of the Year at his school. His experience at the club level includes time with Toronto FC.
UB Career: Hanson has been a part of the UB attack since Day 1, and is the only Bull on the roster to outdate Stu Riddle. After making five starts in 16 appearances a a freshman, he's started in 43 of 47 games since. Last year was a bit of a breakout season for the Ontarian, as he followed up a strong summer with FC Buffalo with a career-high two goals and four assists.
Senior Moment: Hanson's only goal against West Virginia was a bit of a howler from the goalie, but it also put the nail in the Mountaineer coffin. Right now it's UB's only MAC win in a conference where every point is absolutely crucial.
Also, this celebration, which is also from UB's win over WVU:
Dylan Cope - M - New York City, NY
Senior Stats: Cope has started three games while appearing in eleven. He has no goals or assists so far.
Before UB: Dylan played in nineteen matches over two seasons at Iona following a state championship season in high school at Fordham Prep.
UB Career: Cope started eight games last season, appearing in 16. His lone point came as an assist on what to that point was the goal of the season: an 89th-minute equalizer against Bryant just 59 seconds after the Bulldogs had taken the lead. Of course, that game ended with a substantially more memorable goal.
Senior Moment: Cope's been less of a factor for UB this year with the emergence of Braden Scales in the midfield. He's only played 23 minutes in MAC play, all against NIU, but hopefully he gets the start tonight.
