No. 22 Buffalo Men’s Basketball showcased some gritty defense on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena, defeating Marist, 76-49.
UB’s first-half effort looked sluggish on offense, meaning the Bulls had to rely on their defense to propel them to the second half. Marist did a great job at forcing turnovers and slowing down the pace. They’re one of the few teams this year that really tried to slow UB down and it worked for much of the half.
Buffalo’s offense soon picked up before heading to halftime. The Bulls gained a lot of steam once Jayvon Graves completed an alley-oop dunk fed by Ronaldo Segu. CJ Massinburg followed that up with a three pointer and then the shots started falling with ease.
With a 34-20 advantage out of the half, the Bulls were smothering when they lead off the second with a 14-6 run. Graves and Massinburg continued to put on a show by raining shots from beyond the arc, while Marist struggled to find any momentum on offense. Buffalo never let off the gas from there and easily sealed their fifth win of the season and maintained their undefeated record.
Massinburg lead the Bulls in scoring with 21 on the afternoon. That total moatly came off of an impressive 6-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Not bad for someone who just sat out a game for injury.
Graves also fueled a great night with three-point prowess. His 16 points came from 4-6 shooting from deep.
The other big star for the Bulls in this one was Montell McRae. Finishing with 8 points, he’s slowly becoming a silent killer from beyond the arc this year, shooting 8-12 in five games.
Buffalo will now head overseas to Ireland for a test against some mid-major opponents. The Bulls will play their first game in the Belfast Hall of Fame Classic against Milwaukee at the ripe time of 5:30 a.m. ET.
