MAC Power Rankings after week 5

With two games scrubbed per covid protocols the MAC East was barely in action. The scheduled pillow fight between Bowling Green and Akron turned into a blood bath, with the zips snapping the nations longest losing streak.

In the West Ball State won, and EMU upset Western Michigan to set up a MAC West divisional title game between Ball State and Western Michigan.

Believe it or not we have a real chance of a Ball State / Buffalo title game in which one of the teams is ranked and undefeated and the other has gotten by the year on a series of close wins.

Wouldn’t that be interesting.

1 Buffalo 1 0 Covid saved Ohio from #24 Buffalo this weekend. The cascade of events around the MAC means the UB has clinched the MAC East.
2 Kent 3 1 Kent benefits from Western's slip up but even without that the Flashes are looking at a 4-1 season if they can best Ohio next week
3 Ball State 6 3 Ball State took care of business and got the help they needed to set up a MAC west division title game next weekend against Western Michigan.
4 WMU 2 -2 A very poor mid game performance against Eastern Michigan handed WMU their first loss of the year. They have to go on the road and beat Ball State to play in the title game.
5 Miami 5 0 Miami lost a game they needed if they were going to have any shot at caching Buffalo. Good news for the Red Hawks is that they get Bowling Green next week
6 EMU 10 4 The Eagles did it... The Eagles did it... They manages to not cough up a game in the fourth quarter.
7 CMU 4 -3 CMU's secondary got lit up by Plitt. 26-43, 366 YDS, and four touchdowns. Now the Chips need to beat Toledo to finish the season with a winning record.
8 Toledo 7 -1 They did what they needed to do to win, but they let NIU hang around for three quarters.
9 NIU 9 0 Solid game for Northern Illinois, and a solid season for such a young team.
10 Ohio 8 -2 Second cancelled game of the year, and this time against Buffalo. Ohio wins this year are over Akron and Bowling Green. They have one chance left to prove themselves.
11 Akron 12 1 Akron got a win, and a very convincing win over Bowling Green. Next week they will get a chance to go for two in a row when they go to Buffalo.
12 Bowling Green 11 -1 Bowling Green now has the longest losing streak in the MAC, it sits at seven games.
