Bulls Ground The Rockets

NCAA Basketball: Buffalo at Marquette Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

It was not pretty but a sharp night from Nick Perkins, who matched his career high with 26 points, was enough to get the Bulls a very important win over the Toledo Rockets. Perkins hit four 3-pointers in the second half as the Bulls had to climb out of a hole they built for theselves to move to 10-2 in conference, a half game ahead of Bowling Green.

After a terrible first half shooting, 0 for 9 from three points, the Bulls went 7-12 in the second half. The later frame was their best performance beyond the arc in a long time.

Toledo rocked UB early, jumping up 10-0 and after that 17-4 in the first half. To make things worse CJ Massinburg was in foul trouble early picking up three in the first half. UB rallied back strong to close out the first half down only three on Toledo.

The Rockets clung to that scant lead for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Davonta Jordan hit a three point shot midway through the frame to put the Bulls up 59-56. Then, shortly after, Perkins took over hitting three 3-pointers to put UB up 8.

The Bulls play their next three games at home, starting Tuesday night against Ohio.
