How He Came To Buffalo
Very late in the 2015-2016 recruiting season Buffalo had two verbally committed linebackers back out and go to another school, one of them to Rutgers, the Bulls were looking thin at linebacker. So the Bulls went ahead and poached a linebacker from Kent State.
An inside linebacker from La Porte, Indiana, Otwinowski’s only other offers at the time were from the Flashes, to whom he committed last June, and Air Force
2016
As a true freshman Matt played in all 12 games as a depth linebacker and racked up 32 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss on the season
2017
He was still a depth ,linebacker, behind the likes of Khalil Hodge, in 2017 but he still made an impact for the Bulls. Otwinowski appeared in all 12 games tallying 15 tackles on the season
2018
Matt got his first start in 2018, and played in all 14 games for the Bulls. On the year he had 31 tackles and two tackles for loss.
He was also an Academic All-MAC player and was a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete.
2019
With Khalil Hodge moving on after 2018 Otwinowski was tasked with filling his shoes, and he did so quite impressively.
72 tackles on the year, 2.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, a fumble recovery, an interception, and a pass breakup. Matt has literally been all over the field for the defense this season.
