No matter how good you are. No matter how athletic or how strong you may be. You simply can’t given any NCAA team a chance buy throwing terrible at the free throw line and putting your offense to sleep for a half dozen minutes at the time.

UB had been playing their worst game of the season, when suddenly for a few minutes in the second half they found themselves. As the Bulls played their style of hoops they built up a 12 point lead.

And then they went right back to the worst ball of the season.

Perkins had 22 points, Wes Clark chipped in 21 and Jeremy Harris 15 for Buffalo. But UB was 11/26 at the free throw line and a lot of those misses came in the last five minutes of the game.

UB let NIU climb back in from a 12 point deficit to take the lead, and then the Bulls forced overtime. But Eugene German, who was already the star of the night, scored his 27th and 28th points on adrive with four seconds left in overtime.

In a way UB needed to lose this game. After looking completely unbeatable for the first 7-8 games of conference play the Bulls have appeared quite mortal of late. Losing two of their last four and even their victories have been much closer contests.

UB now returns home to play four of their next five. Starting on Tuesday when Kent comes to town.
