Another off season, another black eye for UB hoops.
That was the feeling when for what seems like the umpteenth time since Bobby Hurley left the program, UB lost a player (or players) who were a very promising piece of the upcoming season. For the second time in three years it happened amidst a legal issue.
Quate McKinzie was indefinitely suspended from the team following his arrest last month for assaulting his girlfriend. The assault and other chargers included attempted strangulation and later witness intimidation.
Eventually everything but a misdemeanor charge of criminal contempt, for an intimidating phone call, was dropped. He pled guilty to that and is under conditional discharge.
The Buffalo News reports that Quate has dropped out from UB and is returning home to North Carolina. Supposedly there are a lot of schools lining up for his services.
