Women’s Rowing completes final stroke en route to 6th place CAA Championships finish

UB Women’s Rowing competed for the final time in its program history on Sunday at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Travelling down to Pennsauken, New Jersey, the Bulls took sixth place out of six teams.

UB’s only boat of the afternoon to finish above sixth was in the 2nd Varsity 8 race with a time of 7:15.555. The boat featured Coxswain Caeleigh Heavey, Emma Napper, Isabella Goldberg, Elizabeth shilling, Rylee James, Natalie Howk, Paige Krohn, Madeline Sheffield and Ankita Kelkar.

Finishing three seconds slower than their 2nd Varsity 8 counterpart at 7:18.990, UB’s Varsity 8 boat consisted of Coxswain Ally Mayo, Elisabeth Good, Abbie Albright, Maddy Saporito, Erin O’Connell, Sarah Brill, Jillian Michael, Haley Nieves, and Anna Sviripa.

The last of the scoring boats for Buffalo was in the Varsity 4 race where they finished with a time of 8:32.210. Marissa Scaduto coached from cox with Juliana Gomez, Dania Abul-Enin, Maria Chinnici and Mackenzie Junjulas rounding out the rest of the boat.

Following the event, UB’s Mayo and James each received All-CAA accolades. Mayo was the lone Buffalo rower on the All-CAA team and one of four coxswain’s given the accolade. James was named to the All-CAA Academic team (On another note, UB’s rowing team currently has a perfect APR score of 1000).

UB’s rowing program will now cease operation due to the University’s decision to reduce four Division I athletic teams.
