The Bulls had a chance to win their second conference series of the year but the offense never came together as Eastern Michigan escaped with a 2-1 win in the game and series.
The Bulls struck first in the home half of the first inning. Alex Thrower, leading off the game, got on base and then to second on a throwing error from the pitcher to the first baseman. Bobby Sheppard sucessfully bunted in the next at bat putting runners on the corners with no outs.
Mike Abrunzo hit into a double play but Thrower did manage to score on the play giving UB a 1-0 lead.
EMU scored a single run in both the second and third inning against UB starter Shawn Dubin. Dubin on the day pitched well, six innings four hits and just the two runs. But the Bulls offense was anemic even with EMU committing two errors.
UB challenged for the lead in the bottom of the ninth. Eddie Edwards hit a one out single to center and Thrower drew a walk in the next at bat. With the winning run on base EMU was forced to make their second pitching change of the game. Bobby Sheppard popped out to put two outs on the board.
This put the game on the shoulders of Mike Abrunzo who was struck out looking to end the game.
The Bulls are now 3-3 in MAC play on the year, their next conference series will be in Athens against the Ohio Bobcats. But before they head to Ohio they have a mid week doubleheader versus Niagara.
